With the increasingly blurred lines of today’s musical landscape it’s not easy coming up with something cohesive yet unique. Combining various sounds, styles and techniques while keeping it all honed and definite is all a balancing act rarely realized. But not only does Munich-based musical duo ‘POLY POLY’ achieve these things, they offer it all up in an infectious, groove-rich package that is distinctively their own.
It’s a symbiotic sound that’s taken multi instrumentalist Hans Hu$tle and synth operator Volt Age years to craft. Drawing from a wide variety of genres and styles, the two hand pick elements from funk, hip hop, synthwave and electronica for a result that’ll surely have you hitting ‘replay’. Their recent double release of “Forgotten Remixes from the Future” and “Forgotten Instrumentals from the Future” definitely had that effect on us as they offer up two different styles of some contemporary classic grooves.
After the release of their debut album last year, the producer duo decided to move in a slightly different direction searching out new sounds and influences. But it wasn’t until they stumbled upon the acapella of John Legend’s and Al Green’s “Stay with me“ that the creative lightbulb went off and the studio whirred into action. Taking some of their favourite soulful melodies and offering their own interpretation on the tracks resulted in a refreshed workflow and revitalized perspective on the creative process. With 5 tracks, ranging from funk and soul to downtempo and hip hop, the duo offers tasteful remixes highlighted with soaring synths, saturated drums and slinking basslines.

Primate's new EP 'Out of Time' is anything but Primitive
“Human life is on the edge of being wiped out, while nature is taking back over”
A simple dystopian description from Brighton-based producer Joe Vince, aka Primate, describing his latest EP ‘Out of Time'‘. The release imagines a future where our disaster-ridden civilizations approach extinction as the organic creep of the natural world begins to set in.
In many ways ‘organic’ might just be the key word here, as synth-rich soundscapes, textured atmospheres, and naturally swung percussion frame the release as a whole. But it’s really the balance between organic and electronic elements that makes this release shine.
Take the opening track ‘Exposed’ as the perfect example. Organic arpeggiated bells dance up high while slithering electronic synths lurk in and out of the soundscape. As Vince explains-
"Exposed is apocalyptic story telling music, heavily inspired by cinematic sound design."
’Out of Time’ achieves a rare balance of organic and electronic elements, musical and technical, all the while presenting the larger narrative of our temporal existence alongside the ever-present natural world.

Indie Electronica from Hamburg's Lukas Oppenheimer
Lukas Oppenheimer is a musician originally from Hamburg, Germany currently studying computer science and making music on the side in Berlin. Growing up with an American mother and German father gave Lukas a unique cultural perspective from a very young age. Whether it be his open-minded approach to music or travel, his family upbringing exposed him to both European and American walks of life.
Throughout his youth, Lukas always enjoyed playing instruments and experimenting with music. Whether it was bass, guitar, drums or old synths, Oppenheimer naturally took to being creative with sound. But it wasn't until he was 11 and got a copy of FL Studio that he began down the path of an electronic music producer.
Starting out making unconventional music and sound experiments, it was more the process of creating than the result that intrigued Lukas. To this day he carries that same kind of curiosity and creative energy, often incorporating new outboard gear and workflow into his production setup.
'Never Thought' certainly contains this creative spirit and unique, inquisitive approach. The track is a 6 minute sonic adventure, progressing through experimental atmospheres, deep rhythms and emotional keys.

New release from Vancouver's Datataste
Our friends 'datataste' have just released a new album, check it out over on their bandcamp!
"Sigil Tree" represents a sigilization of sound. The source material, largely found buried in an old hard drive and in project files, had been forgotten several times over before being assembled, deeply augmented, and performed for these recordings.
