Beatsolow’s second compilation album is a melting pot of electronic music launched into the NFT universe

The label compiles an eclectic sound for purchase on mintbase.io

Vancouver based independent label beatsolow has released their second compilation album, VA 02. Featuring various artists, the album is a celebration of the exploration of deep house and the exploration of new musical territory beyond that space. Founded on a love of the sensory and emotional power of music, beatsolow embraces the universal language of the art form through its exploratory compilation while working at the forefront of technological assets within the NFT and blockchain universe.

Previously, in 2018 beatsolow released their first compilation album TIMBRE featuring tracks by MI DI, Kostiya, Shehaq, and Folks Like Us. Bringing together the music of three artists and roommates, the album provided a glimpse into the artistic mind of each musician involved.

Now, this second compilation VA 02 explores the blockchain initiative as it is available as an NFT for download on mintbase.io. Featuring seven artists, many of whom had tracks on the first album, VA 02 shows the unique style of musicians including Kostiya, Perspectiv, Savaggio, Mount Mike, and Shreshth. The first track ‘Communicate’ by Kostiya shows the artists signature curious sound blending sub genres across the electronic dance space. Collaborating with Perspectiv in the track ‘El Nido,’ the artists weave their cultural backgrounds to create a diverse musical experience. Savaggio and Mount Mike’s ‘Natural Light’ incorporates elements of experimental deep string that is signature of the work of Savaggio who’s career started off playing violin. Astrazione Astrale drops with high dance energy

Two new tracks by Felche create a techno and electro inspired atmosphere

A partnership of two long-term friends, Felche is an Italian duo that began making music together two years ago. Merging their backgrounds in techno, electro, experimental electronics, and contemporary music composition, the pair has explored the boundaries of dub, glitch, drone, and techno through their 100% hardware-based sessions. As a result, they have produced two releases in the last two years that demonstrate their in-studio approach.

The newest release, “Astrazione Astrale” follows on from their first single in 2020, “Faune.” Playlisted by house DJ Sasha, “Faune” is comprised of three tracks: “Nel Labirinto,” “Striature dell’Inconscio,” and “Quinto Cancello.” The first produces an ephemeral house sound, with the second following up to add a layer of chaos and intensity, only to close with a drum pad-focused track that seals the release off at a more minimal note.

“Faune” set the tone for their playful and dance-oriented techno sound that embedded itself into “Astrazione Astrale,” released this July. Two tracks—the album’s namesake and “Isolesole”—create a thirteen-minute rhythmic experience comprised of a combination of techno themes, house feelings, and dynamic energy fit to set the atmosphere on the dancefloor. Felche uses pads and 808 drums, blended with reverbs and tape delays to create a pulse that trickles throughout the beat at a steady energy across both songs.

Percussive beats define Moomin’s latest release

Four new tracks carry a deep house style from the Berlin-based artist

The Snoofer is a new EP from Berlin-based artist Moomin. With a musical career that began collecting hip hop records, Moomin started to DJ in his hometown in Germany in 1995. Soon after, his small steps into experimentation with music production eventually grew, as he brought hardware into his practice, sampling jazz, funk, and hip-hop music from all of the records he had collected. Paving the way to his full transition to house music, he eventually moved from Kiel to Berlin to surround himself with the genre.

Moomin released his debut album in 2010, drawing positive attention from the German label Smallville records. Encouraged by the label to release a full-length album, Moomin released The Story About You in 2011. Subsequently, he released A Minor Thought in 2016, and Yesterday’s Tomorrow in 2018. With an extensive list of singles and EPs to his name, Moomin’s recent releases include For Willow from this year, Blackest Forest Ever—a collaboration with Julius Steinhoff released in 2020, plus Time Circle, A Day and a Night, and Concrete Grounds all from 2019.

The subtle, deep house style associated with Moomin are prominent in his latest release The Snoofer. The four-track EP begins with ‘For Willow,’ a relaxing and airy drum melody, overlapped with deeper drumbeats that roll listeners into the album. A remix of the track by Seb Wildblood follows, syncopating the rhythm of the original. The album’s title track ‘The Snoofer’ plus ‘Breathe’ keep the pace rooted in percussive drum sounds, floating with synth and bass to carry out the album to its close.

More strange moods from Cassilda and Carcosa

RYTM TR06 Digitone SLL SiX Prophet 6 Prologue 8 Empress Reverb Strymon Volante FMR RLA AFX Station Sequentix Cirklon

Known for a love of weird fiction and acidic techno, this artist continues to bring fresh ideas to the table

We last checked in with Brooklyn based producer “Cassilda and Carcosa” back in October last year when they dropped an LP with the Virginia based Ingrown Records. The sound and style output by the project is vibrant with unique flavour, embracing acid flicks and faithfully electronic melodies. The moniker adopted also speaks to the artist’s taste for the unusual, itself a reference to the work of famous science fiction author.

That ambience of science fiction sits as one of the core themes at work within Cassilda and Carcosa’s discography, that and a determination to avoid typical digital audio workstations in favour of their own varied range of analogue mixers, sequencers and synthesisers.

That predilection for more old school quality resurfaces in our featured track from the New York artist, titled “The King in Yellow”.  An experimental IDM track which fits a hazy bassline under scattered sonic beats, The King in Yellow is taken from “TX-81Z”, a four track EP and Cassilda and Carcosa’s most recent collection.

The EP returns to that new age glitch and acid fed techno which become a tribute to the world of weird fiction. It’s bouncy, technically proficient, and slides in a hint of groove.

The distinct downtempo house of Ninze, in ‘Lose Time’

Ninze tinkers with his preferred style of slow rolling deep house, returning to Tal der Verwirrung for an introspective EP

img-6709-1613552819348.jpg

Throughout the evolution of his discography his Ninze has rarely been static. Over the past five years the German producer has ventured deep into the corners of leftfield experimental, deep house and ambient. In his past collaborative work he has gone so far as to help to coin the term ketapop, a style characterised by techno beats, unusual sample patterns and a radically slow tempo. Ninze has been playing with the idea for a while, and similar styles like snail techno have been emerging in the same bracket.

In his solo work Ninze takes things at a deliberate pace, making use of delicate percussion and melodies which gradually hit the track like scattered raindrops. It’s an artistic process that makes room from extended patterns, which unfold along the length of each release. Moods of melancholy drift among tones which are simply meditative, occasionally even becoming uplifting as touches of gentle groove fall into the mix.

The most recent track dropped by Ninze is ‘Lose Time’, a house infusion which gradually unravels over the course of ten minutes. Lose Time is one of the four tracks which make up ‘Lost in Light’, an EP now out on Tal der Verwirrung records.

A new start in minimal soundscapes, from Machine Lab

The techno masters join up to venture ever deeper into electronic sound

Both John Tejada and Natan H each have extensive experience in electronic production, both in a personal creative capacity and as a part of their respective careers. Now the two have come together to create a new partnership, fuelled by their passion for music and infused with decades of shared experience.

Tejada is well established as an artist, having worked on releases for a host of labels including industry favourite Kompakt. His own label ‘Palette Recordings’ has been running since the mid 90’s. His colleague Natan H has been producing under the moniker Gauss, and brings his own left-field attitude to the collaboration.

‘Machine Lab’ focuses on the realms of techno and minimal house, cultivating tones and themes that experiment with futuristic noise capable of coaxing the listener into a new landscape. It’s a project which still feels fresh and promising, with just two tracks currently released.

The essentialist ‘SVF’ opens the EP, playing with tweaks of electronica and found sound style samples which wander from the physical to ethereal.  ‘Thru Zero’ is a more downtempo release but no less polished in its ambience. The house influence in the track keeps the rhythm crisp and impactful, but it’s the samples which dart through the background which keep the sound so vibrant.

New progressive sound from Delayed Pleasure, with ‘orbiting the sun’

Stepping onto the scene, the artist presents two tracks with an acidic taste

Constructing ambience and environment within a track is a challenge artists often find themselves devoting hours of work to. Slow burn tracks like those featured in Delayed Pleasure’s debut EP ‘Galactic Center’ are the result of long term and patient selection of themes and samples, creating an end result which becomes difficult to summarise, as any multi-layered experience is.

snp02525-copy-1607508299201.jpg

Based in the UK, Delayed Pleasure has been experimenting with hardware synths and drum machines. He lists artists such as Plastikman, TinMan and DeepChord as being influences on his sound, which moves gradually and embraces slow but purposeful evolution.

In Delayed Pleasure’s style can be found echoes of dub, acid and techno, each diffused across the track runtime. It’s the kind of music which drifts between moods, interacting with different themes and then travelling along a progressive techno beat to find the next avenue of sound.

The leading track on the EP, ‘star ferry’, exudes a lower tone, flicks of acid appearing and disappearing like sparks against the inky blackness of the bass synth. Our featured track ‘orbiting the sun’ rolls at a slightly higher tempo and begins to surround the listener with rhythmic techno, before exposing a more alien side to the sound.

Islandman present groove rich rhythms, with ‘Aku Membawa’

For the second single off the forthcoming album, islandman team up with Danish producers Kenneth Bager and DJ Divo & OliO. 'Aku Membawa' is a shapeshifting h...

Fresh from a Boiler Room live set and performance for the London Jazz Festival, Islandman provide a glimpse of a new album

Islandman began as a solo project of Istanbul based producer Tolga Böyük over ten years ago, and has since grown to become a trio of multi-instrumentalists. Together with Eralp Güven and Erdem Başer, Böyük brings life to tracks rich with ethno-futuristic flavour.

The group’s discography is populated by tightly focused beats of percussion and wandering guitar melodies, creating a dreamlike landscape with a healthy spoonful of groove. At times the steady rhythms draw Islandman towards the genres of techno and house, but there’s no sense of attachment to this field. The inclusion of field recordings and experimental samples which emerge and fade away cultivate a sound which shifts beneath your feet.

A few years ago Islandman joined Music for Dreams, and is now focused on releasing their third album with the Denmark label. Promising to dig deeper into the trio’s dance floor moods the collection should arrive next year, as Islandman return to live performances.

Our featured single ‘Aku Membawa’ is taken from the upcoming album and welcomes DJ Divo & OliO to the studio, as well as Music for Dreams label boss Kenneth Bager. Reverb affected vocals present a balance between the organic and illusionary, but the dance floor vibe leads the track.
