'point of departure,' a harmonically tuned machine of a track from octo17

The first thing you can tell about ‘point of departure,’ a brand new track from St. Petersburg’s octo17, is that it was built with precision. Like a seasoned machinist steadfastly grinding away parts for the perfectly tuned machine, octo17 produces a sonic aesthetic that is crisp, airy, and grounded in harmony. Every component of the track works with another, whether it be the harmonizing arps, call-and-return stabs, or cross-panned percussion.

And because everything works together, it builds quite naturally to a satisfying climax, taking its time to get there. Fans of melodic or slow techno will surely appreciate this one. Stream it above, and after follow octo17 on Soundcloud to keep up with the rest of his output.

Made In Paris leaves lasting impression with Forgotten Soul

Paris Forscutt a.k.a. ‘Made in Paris’ is not as you might guess a French native, she is in fact a woman of many talents hailing from Sydney, Australia. She has a busy international DJ schedule, she is the label boss of Upon Access, and is a well respected producer with her own material gaining the support of industry heavy weights such as Maceo Plex, Danny Tenaglia, and Tiga. Not only that, she is also an impressive vocalist as we can see on her new release on Upon Access “Forgotten Soul”.

Most House/Techno tracks usually take a few bars before they fully kick in, but Forgotten Soul grabs hold of you from the very beginning because of its haunting melody it continues to hold it’s grip through Paris’s pensive vocal. There is something about it that commands your attention. It’s like a sonic siren beckoning you into a hazy dreamscape because of what Forscutt has managed to do and excelled at in all of her work by creating a sense of brooding atmosphere. If you review her Soundcloud you can easily see this displayed throughout her productions as there is often a focus on darker hypnotic sounds.

In Forgotten Soul it seems Paris is in full creative flow creating a track rich in transcendent moments. It is a pure club track. This is a record that when used at the right time will create the kind of hands in the air moment that will leave a lasting impression. This is the kind of secret weapon any aspiring spinner should have in the bag if curating deep emotive moments on the dance floor is their main goal.

Personally I loved this track and will be adding it to my list of go to records for some time. If you check out Made In Paris’s back catalog you will see that she has a lot to offer, not just production-wise but in many different aspects of club culture. Among all of what she has put out I suspect Forgotten Soul will become a firm favourite with fans for some time to come.
