Something brand new from Montell Martin’s debut: Glovebox

It’s hard to get fresher; ‘Glovebox’ is Montell Martin’s first track, but the sound flows like it’s effortless.  Martin comes from the UK, based in London, and part of this debut release’s soul is mixed up in the home-grown vibe that fills up each second held up by the emerging artist.

Submissions with such a central vocal element aren’t generally the focus for ADSR Collective, but the balance between electronic foundation and lyrical rhythm is pulled off with talent, each complementing the other in a partnership, as opposed to the relationship of primary and secondary in most lo-fi hip hop. The chorus hits at the same level as the beats which starting melt through the sound, vocal elements carrying the same honey through a cozy pop vibe. The drum beats hit an essential pulse taking precedence and receding to generate a rhythm that stays chilled.

You can find the genuine personality of start-up SoundCloud hopefuls here, but Martin seems past the point of looking for a personality in his sound, instead looking to explore the potential that’s evidentially already present. The video delivered alongside this gives off the same sense of community, and music for the sake of music.

Rewind of a classic- Original Nuttah turns 25

UK Apache with Shy FX - Original Nuttah 25 is out now - Listen here: ADA.lnk.to/OriginalNuttah25 https://www.facebook.com/ShyFX https://twitter.com/ShyFX https://www.instagram.com/ShyFX https://www.instagram.com/ukapachetheoriginalnuttah

With the golden days of sound system culture long-gone, every now and then we get some throwbacks. Occasional Dillinja remasters, sporadic DJ Aphrodite shows or a rare Goldie releases to name a few. End of 2019 summer is rewarding all of the junglists out there with a re-recorded version of one of the most influential tracks in the underground scene of UK – Original Nuttah 25 by UK Apache and Shy FX released on cult.ure (Shy FX’s output).

It is quite challenging to find a true jungle sound these days which makes this release a treat for any lover of deep bass, Jamaican vocals and amen breaks. Alongside the remix, by Chase & Status, this 2-track is a great throwback to the golden era of this genre. Saul and Will from C&S did justice on the original, as expected after their remix from 2017 of another jungle classic – Valley of the Shadows by Origin Unknown.

‘Original Nuttah 25’ is simply a truthful recreation of the original with the mighty Idris Elba on mic duties, with a twist on the drum groove and the overall sound updated to today’s standards.

Here’s to another 25 years of lively basslines, chopped up funk breaks and soulful vocals.

Current Eddy serves up a Tasty slice of synth pop heaven with 'Eyes'.

Current Eddy is an international electronic music group based out of Thailand, Korea and the UK.  ‘Eyes’ being only their second release to date displays a track with well established synth pop sensibilities.

According to my good friend at wikipedia Current Eddy “are loops of electrical current induced within conductors by a changing magnetic field”, it seems that this is the premise behind ‘Eyes’ as the track plays with elements that do exactly that, not just within the audio but also the animated accompanying video. Both sound and vision are created with an infectious playful energy that are excited by all the elements of the track that flutter, swirl and simmer like sparks of imagination caught in a magnetic field. Accented by a bell-diving bassline that bubbles back up towards the surfaces of swirling synths and crisp percussion.

The video is beautifully animated and supports the viscosity of the vibrant pallet of colours which is omnipresent in every sense. Current Eddy already sounds like a group with a distinct style, bringing something fresh and energetic to the table while managing to engage with the more familiar elements of pop we love. If you are a fan of groups such as MGMT, Tama Impala, Flume, and Gotye then be sure to check out future releases from the rising international electronic group.

Human life is on the edge of being wiped out, while nature is taking back over”

A simple dystopian description from Brighton-based producer Joe Vince, aka Primate, describing his latest EP ‘Out of Time'‘. The release imagines a future where our disaster-ridden civilizations approach extinction as the organic creep of the natural world begins to set in.

In many ways ‘organic’ might just be the key word here, as synth-rich soundscapes, textured atmospheres, and naturally swung percussion frame the release as a whole. But it’s really the balance between organic and electronic elements that makes this release shine.

Take the opening track ‘Exposed’ as the perfect example. Organic arpeggiated bells dance up high while slithering electronic synths lurk in and out of the soundscape. As Vince explains-
"Exposed is apocalyptic story telling music, heavily inspired by cinematic sound design."

’Out of Time’ achieves a rare balance of organic and electronic elements, musical and technical, all the while presenting the larger narrative of our temporal existence alongside the ever-present natural world.
