Exploring the Depths of Possible People's "Drop In"

A Mature Return with "Drop In"
Possible People, comprising the Sydney-based duo Pinz from Pinz & Pelz and Tulett of COOL CDs, make a compelling return with their sophomore EP, "Drop In." Released under the trusted banner of Extra Spicy, this EP marks a noticeable evolution from their debut, "Loving Is Hard." The new release retains the distinctive sound that first brought them acclaim but shifts the focus from club beats to more introspective, soul-stirring tracks. The maturation in their musical expression is palpable, moving away from the dance floor to explore more nuanced emotional landscapes, making it a soundtrack more suited for deep listening than for dancing.

Collaborative Dynamics and Vocal Innovations
"Drop In" features enriching collaborations that highlight the duo's growth and willingness to experiment. Notably, the EP includes contributions from long-time friend and Extra Spicy alumnus, LOW STAKES, and introduces Pinz's vocal talents on tracks like 'I Don't Ask For Much' and 'On The K-Set.' These additions offer a fresh dynamic to their sound, blending seamlessly with the EP’s overarching themes of introspection and emotional complexity. The presence of familiar voices not only enriches the auditory experience but also adds a layer of personal touch that fans are sure to appreciate.

Homage with a Twist
While the EP pays homage to the drum and bass of the 2000s, it does not confine itself to a single genre. Instead, "Drop In" traverses a broader sonic terrain, shifting track-to-track through different moods and styles, illustrating the duo's versatility and deep understanding of bass music. This range is presented as a journey through sound, where each track offers a distinct vibe, contributing to a cohesive yet diverse listening experience. The EP feels like a blade of grass growing through concrete—subtle yet strikingly alive, begging to find soul in the cold and clinical world around.

Shifting into acid glitch, with Stabfinger's 'Doppia Personalità'

As a musician, Nicolas Atlan seems unwilling to settle on one identity. Based in Paris, he works to produce a range of sounds which include collaborative projects, mashups, remixes and solo work. From this collection of music three major names have emerged. Atlan has been part of the talent behind ‘Binome’ a 90’s techno focused pairing with Venetian artist Funny Ox. He’s also taken a more experimental path with the IDM partnership titled ‘Lumiere’, in which he joined up with Enrico Wiltsch of Rome.

The music presented to us today arrives by way of his solo project, ‘Stabfinger’, a bass rooted project incorporating a healthy amount of breakbeat and low frequencies. Under the Stabfinger alias Atlan has been looking to artists including Apex Twin and Squarepusher, as he continues to construct his own unique brand of electronic music. He’s had time to do so, considering he first began to produce as Stabfinger back in 2008.

His new EP just released on February 13th in connection with London’s Boomerang Records, which means two more fresh tracks, the lead in being ‘Doppia Personalità’. This six and a half minute track weighs in heavier on Glitch and D&B, bringing a sharper grip and a twist of acidity.

Smooth Junglin' with Pinz & Pelz - "There Must Be A Place For Me"

Split between Berlin and Sidney, Pinz & Pelz are Sidney based DJ and broadcaster Andy Loewe, and Berlin based producer Phillip Pelz. While the genre straddling duo is often churning out deep, soulful house, as well as dark, acidic techno, the November 27th’s release of “There Must Be A Place For Me” on Start Local Records compilation - a Sidney/UK based label, marks their second Jungle/DnB release to date.

“There Must Be A Place For Me” was written with fresh inspiration, a day after arrival via red eye flight upon their first visit to the western Australian capital city, Perth. The tracks optimistic atmosphere is defined by bright chords, shimmering strings, bells, and piano. Dubbed out vocal samples, alongside a deep rolling bassline sit in contrast to the sporadic Jungle breaks, carrying the weight of the emotive groove in a way that makes one as likely to want to shake their limbs as bob ones head.

Rewind of a classic- Original Nuttah turns 25

UK Apache with Shy FX - Original Nuttah 25 is out now - Listen here: ADA.lnk.to/OriginalNuttah25 https://www.facebook.com/ShyFX https://twitter.com/ShyFX https://www.instagram.com/ShyFX https://www.instagram.com/ukapachetheoriginalnuttah

With the golden days of sound system culture long-gone, every now and then we get some throwbacks. Occasional Dillinja remasters, sporadic DJ Aphrodite shows or a rare Goldie releases to name a few. End of 2019 summer is rewarding all of the junglists out there with a re-recorded version of one of the most influential tracks in the underground scene of UK – Original Nuttah 25 by UK Apache and Shy FX released on cult.ure (Shy FX’s output).

It is quite challenging to find a true jungle sound these days which makes this release a treat for any lover of deep bass, Jamaican vocals and amen breaks. Alongside the remix, by Chase & Status, this 2-track is a great throwback to the golden era of this genre. Saul and Will from C&S did justice on the original, as expected after their remix from 2017 of another jungle classic – Valley of the Shadows by Origin Unknown.

‘Original Nuttah 25’ is simply a truthful recreation of the original with the mighty Idris Elba on mic duties, with a twist on the drum groove and the overall sound updated to today’s standards.

Here’s to another 25 years of lively basslines, chopped up funk breaks and soulful vocals.
