Stripped back minimal work from Zerstorte Zelle

Zerstorte Zelle seems the type of artist to prefer to lean back from creating an online presence and platform, instead forming an identity purely around the sound he creates and distributes. Zelle’s personal route into the world of electronica involves homemade synth, experimental tracks built up through live recordings, and a dose of the unconventional.

Based in Brooklyn, Zelle has previously shown his talents working with ‘Skyes’, a synth-pop project that released their last indie alternative EP back in 2018. Although Skyes was able to cultivate a creative atmosphere in their discography, pursuing solo work can often lead to a freedom incomparable to that offered in a group.

Whatever the inspiration, Zelle released his debut EP as a solo artist on June 19th. ‘061920’ is a result of DIY music production, created at home with no computer editing involved in the recording process. The EP features five tracks which carry a vibe of minimal electronic and drone, pieced together with a notably experimental method which involved the use of DC motors and Mbira.

Our featured track from 061920 is ‘D_01’, a gradual composition which remains minimalist in its structure, pushing boundaries and escaping genre conventions.

IDM from the heart, with Under:tones' debut track ‘3’

Resulting from the unification of Italian artists Matteo Zarcone and Alex Neri comes Under:tones, a musical project aimed at producing music sourced from an instinctual place, avoiding the trappings and limitations of convention.

This duo may well be greater than the sum of its parts, but there’s unarguably individual brilliance in the paths taken by each member. Zarcone has a decade’s worth of experience working as a Dj, having been involved in projects with labels including Sony Music and Two House Records, and more recently performing regularly at TENAX club in Florence and EGG Club in London under the moniker of ZEE.

Zarcone’s collaborator Alex Neri became involved in the electronic music industry in the 1980’s, well positioned to experience the emergent key genres of the 90’s such as House and Garage. In addition to cultivating a successful solo career, Neri is a founding member of the band Planet Funk.

The pair mark Under:tones’ debut with the release of ‘3’; A delicately constructed track which smoothly progresses down a route of minimal house and IDM. Well placed samples lead to the construction of a pensive atmosphere that relies on a more organic edge.

Smooth Junglin' with Pinz & Pelz - "There Must Be A Place For Me"

Split between Berlin and Sidney, Pinz & Pelz are Sidney based DJ and broadcaster Andy Loewe, and Berlin based producer Phillip Pelz. While the genre straddling duo is often churning out deep, soulful house, as well as dark, acidic techno, the November 27th’s release of “There Must Be A Place For Me” on Start Local Records compilation - a Sidney/UK based label, marks their second Jungle/DnB release to date.

“There Must Be A Place For Me” was written with fresh inspiration, a day after arrival via red eye flight upon their first visit to the western Australian capital city, Perth. The tracks optimistic atmosphere is defined by bright chords, shimmering strings, bells, and piano. Dubbed out vocal samples, alongside a deep rolling bassline sit in contrast to the sporadic Jungle breaks, carrying the weight of the emotive groove in a way that makes one as likely to want to shake their limbs as bob ones head.
