House tracks made in silence, from HeartWerk’s ‘Distant’

The music produced by HeartWerk tends to be inhabited by night-time visions, possessed by the spirits of House, Acid and Techno. In the past HeartWerk has provided ADSR Collective with tracks weighed down by bass, shifting sequences which play around the edge of your hearing as much as they centre and direct the heavy, resolute beat. With inspirations from the world of Deep House such as Peggy Gou and Harrison BDP, the sound of HeartWerk naturally moves to dark, primal territories.

In these times of isolation producers are being influenced both physically and mentally, and as they experiment and tinker with beats the effect of this entrapment begins to show in their work. This is the environment in which HeartWerk has released the two track EP ‘Distant from You’, on Tulsa Oklahoma’s dance and electronic label ‘U Don’t Dance’.

Leading in with the 5:30 minute track ‘Distant’, we’re presented with faded clashes of industrial samples and muted bass, which are secondary to the higher toned beat line. Along with the melodic synth this beat is the element that pulls the atmosphere towards an astral level, shaded by melancholy. Lo-fi vocal samples complete a track positioned towards light, but restrained in dusk.
