Born in Villa Gesell, Argentina, Iñaki Guillanolegui—alias Aske Izan—is a musician, producer, and DJ. His talent and love for playing the drums dates back to his early child years, and eventually led him to be a member of several bands before breaking into the world of electronic music. Taking inspiration from Daft Punk, Guillanolegui forged his path as a producer beginning with FL Studio and moving into Ableton Live. He is also the co-founder of the Outsiders Records label that began in Buenos Aires and promotes innovative house music.

Aske Izan released his first EP Formula in 2017 with Augusto Gagliardi and GastoM and has continued to work with them and others in the years to follow. He released several EPs with Augusto Gagliardi, including Reaccion in 2019, and Sustancia, I Like, Just Dance and Distance doesn’t matter, all in 2020. Other collaborations include: Resina and MakeOne with MartinoResi; Meet 3-8 which he released with Mr. Fowks; and Dots which he released with Mr. Fowks alongside both Augusto Gagliardi and GastoM. He has also released several EPs as a solo artist, including: De Noche from 2019, plus Rosa, Nightclub, and Warm Earth Music all from 2020.

His latest release, Jazzy holds true to his curious, adventurous sound while mixing Deep House with jazz and organic overtones. Presenting two original tracks called ‘Jazzy’ and ‘Eter’, Aske Izan once again came together with GastoM to collaborate on the third track, a remix of ‘Jazzy.’ The remixed track brings another dimension to the EP, inviting a progression of ethereal sounds while maintaining the technological undertones.

The secretive artist announces an extended release which makes public his quiet experimentations

Hanisii is an artist of substantial talent but a clear aversion to shifting focus from their sound to their public identity. For at least six years the Hanisii has been producing underground electronic music which touches on the genres of experimental and ambient among a wide spread of other influences. All these styles are in Hanisii’s repertoire when he comes to production, work which tends to produce tracks centred on lo fi and organic house.

As an ongoing project Hanisii has been somewhat sporadic with releases, and the artist had recently faded off the radar. Last month saw a premiere of a brand new album however, and details on the collection appeared in the following weeks, partly provided by the upcoming label ‘Time In The Special Practice Of Relativity’.

Titled ‘Klondike’ the album remains consistent which Hanisii’s minimalist style, with each of the eleven tracks given a numerical value rather than a stylised name. The full release flows on a glacier slow time scale, with most tracks reaching at least five minutes. That gives Hanisii a huge opportunity for creative movements and left field ideas, something that they take full advantage of. Our featured track leans towards a house vibe, but that’s one area travelled through on a longer journey.

A rich return to form; Anchorsong with ‘Tunis Dream’

The Tokyo born, London-based producer announces a highly anticipated homecoming, with new paths ahead for the landmark artist

Anchorsong 1 CreditMASAHAMANOI.png

Anchorsong is an artist whose return has been long awaited by fans and critics alike. The work of Tokyo born artist Masaaki Yoshida, Anchorsong is a project which has just reached its 10th year with the Tru Thoughts label. The mixed electronica collections released over the course of those ten years have drawn acclaim from major trend setters and media outlets, particularly from primetime presenters on BBC Radio like Lauren Laverne and Gilles Peterson. Sets for the Boiler Room and Glastonbury have occurred alongside support performances for Bonobo and DJ Krush. It’s been an undeniably strong journey.

The elements in Anchorsong’s music which stir up this attention are manifold, and like many artists there’s no fixation to be found on certain genre in his discography. Ambient and shoegaze form part of his work, downtempo and hip-hop groove also finding a place. The use of an MPC2500 sampling drum machine is a characteristic choice, but hardware is often limited only by creativity which there’s no shortage of here.

Fresh single ‘Tunis Dream’ is the first track to appear from Anchorsong since his third album in 2018. Travel and mindfulness influence the mood, finishing a smooth beat and groove infused melody.
