From the city of Basel in north-western Switzerland, Audio Dope had been producing for years before properly setting out to make his mark on electronic music with his own personal style. That’s not to say that his earlier work is lacking in talent, with some well-constructed tracks going back to 2011 stored on his Bandcamp page. Venturing out from that starting point, Audio Dope has been genre hopping from 90’s hip hop style beats and funk to a sound with a more lo-fi, down-tempo feel, releasing his debut EP ‘Solar’ in 2015 with Boyoom Connective, a label focused on the creative beatmakers of Switzerland.
More recently Audio Dope made the move to pioneering German based label Majestic Casual Records in 2018, releasing both a self-titled album and the ‘Preserved’ EP. He’s even managed to find time to get out and support artists like Kaytranada, and turn up to play live at some of Switzerland’s top festivals including Openair Frauenfeld and Montreux Jazz Festival.
His latest work is the deep track ‘Absence of Gravity’, a song which demonstrates his characteristic use of instrumental and percussive sampling, amplifying these organic samples with electronic influence. Absence of Gravity appropriately feels weightless; graceful melodies supporting an atmosphere of serenity.
