Synth soaked techno with R.Kitt's 'I Wish You Hadn't Said'

R.Kitt is a Dj, producer, promoter, and live performance act from Dublin Ireland. Over this past decade he’s been slowly carving a name for himself, regularly putting on parties and playing gigs in some of Dublin’s best venues for underground music such as Button Factory, District 8, and the Grand Social, amongst many others.

2019 saw R.Kitt break through, playing alongside industry heavyweights Prosumer and Paranoid London, in a lead up to their Boiler Room live set for Belfast’s AVA festival. An engaging performer, R.Kitt’s live setup consists of 2 analog synths complete with full size keys,  a TB 303 for classic acid squiggles and basslines, and a trusty TR-8 amongst a few other pieces of gear. The set progressed through a range of sounds, starting with jacking house, drifting into melodic techno, wiggly acid grooves, and into full on visceral, pounding techno over the course of 50 minutes. What remained consistent throughout was the use of his analog synths. Whether it be ambient chords, sporadic notes, or punchy square waves, R Kitt is busy on stage, keying chords and notes into his set, making for a mesmerizing set.

Having made waves with his AVA festival set, Berlin based label Night Tides was quick to get in touch for a release. As one of the 5 tracks on his Night Tides EP, I Wish you hadn’t said is a prime example of R. Kitt’s signature. A steady arpeggiated synth sits in contrast to drifting ambience and sporadic notes, and a punchy, electro-esque drum pattern carries the weight into a melodic build up of energy, that releases itself into a minor key groove.

R.Kitt is one to keep an eye out for in 2020. Check out his track I Wish you hadn’t said on his Night Tides release, as well as his AVA Festival boiler room set.

A Mind-Melting Synth Storm with Rocko Garoni's 'Sane'

Entering the world of techno through his drum & bass past, Ocko Garen aka Rocko Garoni has carved out his own unique niche in the Berlin electronic scene with his technical and edgy sound. The birth of rave culture in the 90s served as the spark that lit Rocko’s creative flame, leading to a number of positions in the world of underground music from festival and stage organizer to label manger and music producer.

Regardless of the task, Rocko approaches his work with a keen eye to detail and boundary pushing attitude. As a producer he is signed to Pan-Pot’s Berlin based imprint ‘Second State’ and regularly releases rhythmic and intense industrial warehouse techno. Which is exactly the kind of powerful sound Second State delivers with their latest compilation entitled ‘SUM 7’.

Featuring an all star cast of techno legends and upcoming talent, the compilation delivers on all fronts. Garoni’s contribution is the trippy and tumultuous rollercoaster of a track entitled ‘Sane’’, which takes a slightly more left field approach to the genre and slowly builds into a dizzying storm of synthesizers and off-kilter percussion. A definite must-have for any aspiring DJ looking to bring the dancefloor of the night to the brink of sanity and back.

Hybrasil's Embers LP is one for the seasoned ravers

Berlin by way of Ireland, Hybrasil has no doubt hit the ground running since relocating to Europe’s techno headquarters in 2018. No stranger to the grind, Hybrasil initially carved out a name for himself in the Dublin scene through years of performing, broadcasting, promoting and organizing. Since his arrival in Berlin, Hybrasil hasn’t wasted any time getting involved in the bustling German capital.

November 15th marked the release of Hybrasil’s ‘Embers LP’, his debut release on Radio Slave’s Rekids label. The intro track ‘Hathor’ sets the pace at a steady 132 bpm. Dubbed out organ chords and percussion builds steadily, holding their velocity in a rolling and propulsive groove, one that would fit well on a murky dancefloor at an imperceptible time of night. Previous to the completion of the album, Hybrasil heard this track played out by friend and Rekids label head Radio Slave at Panorama Bar. Inspired, the rest of the album was produced with the seasoned ravers in mind, crafted for the sound systems of Berghain, Panorama Bar, and cavernous rave spaces alike.

Distant Matters of a Duo From Sydney and Berlin

Pinz & Pelz are a cross global duo, having met in Melbourne in 2018, the Sydney / Berlin based producers have been steadily occupying a presence in the international scene.

‘Distant Matter’ is the first track to premiere off their upcoming September 27th release ‘Purer Life’ EP. The release has already been gaining some reputable recognition, with cross genre production, Pinz & Pelz encapsulate both of their styles, interests and experiences into this distinctive project.

This track is a piece reminiscent of early liquid drum and bass productions, yet it seems to stem across more genres than just the foundational rhythm. This independent release dwells through a melodic sphere, one which distances melodies from the hard hitting beat whilst maintaining the cohesiveness of the piece. The melodic journey of this track embarks with a chordal pad and on it's way encounters progressing arpeggiator notes that compliment the overall structure of the piece.

Throughout this journey you will hear rising noises, articulated filter movements, progressing melodies and of course a beautiful saxophone which finds its place in the midst of all the complementary elements. The melodies will make you feel meanwhile the rhythm will keep you moving, Distant Matter allows for contrasting energies to come together into a truly unforgettable musical progression.

Dualizm Proves that 'Cheap Whiskey' can still be Sweet

Our regular readers will recognize the name ‘Dualizm’ from our writeup about his release ‘An Ounce of Rain’ a couple months back. And there’s good reason his name keeps popping up. Crisp production, quality samples and a fleeting sense of nostalgia encircle his tracks like slowly drifting smoke rings.

The Berlin-based beatmaker has worked with an impressive lineup of both local and international artists and has written music for film and television productions. Which really all makes sense looking at the quality and quantity of his output, with new music coming out monthly it’s no wonder his tracks have a honed sound and effortless swing.

That unique sound can definitely be heard in today’s feature which Dualizm describes as “one of my most jazzy tracks.” “Cheap Whiskey” was actually supposed to be on his recent album ‘Project R. vol.3’ but feeling that it stood out from the bunch too much, he instead decided to release it as a single.

Whether you like it straight or on the rocks, single malt or blended, “Cheap Whiskey” is definitely the perfect smooth sipper to cap off a long day.

Cheers

Dualizm offers classic instrumental bliss in 'An Ounce Of Rain'

Dualizm is a german producer based in Berlin who over the last few years has been busy galvanizing beats for a number of artists in the underground hip-hop scene. Recently he decided it was high time he put out some of his own material and we have had the pleasure of reviewing his latest release ‘An Ounce of Rain’ from his Project R Vol. 2 EP which is out now on various platforms (available below).

Heavily built on nostalgia, intentional or not, ‘An Ounce of Rain’ feels like a nod to the golden age of late 90’s hip-hop. Even with it’s short running time of 2mins 45s the track still feels fully realized because of the steady progression. Starting off with some somber Rhodes that creates a pensive head space while also managing to be dream like. There are plenty of atmospheric soundscapes that float like air and drizzle like rain which keep you engaged in the tracks groove until your attention is drawn towards the uplifting, hopeful piano hook that elevates the mood. ‘An Ounce of Rain’ embodies all the classical elements of instrumental hip-hop, telling you a story through expression and nuance. I only wish the track ran a bit longer because I feel like there was potential for a lot more exploration but I guess its not always a bad thing to be left wanting more, which is the very much the case in Dualizm latest release.
