Cosmic Wildlife's "How To": A Journey Through Jazz and Beyond

Innovative Fusion and Soundscapes
Cosmic Wildlife's debut album, "How to," marks a significant entry into the jazz world with its innovative fusion of genres. The Swedish quartet, under Elias Hällqvist’s leadership, delivers a refreshing twist to jazz, blending it seamlessly with elements of electronica, dream pop, and ambient music. This blend results in a sound that’s both familiar and new, capturing everyday emotions in a unique auditory experience. The album is a testament to the band's creative vision, showcasing their ability to push boundaries while maintaining musical coherence.

Mastery in Musicianship
The musicianship in "How to" is a highlight, demonstrating the band's technical skills and artistic sensibilities. Pontus Hedström’s contributions on wind instruments are particularly notable, adding depth and melody that elevate the album's overall texture. Karl Magnús Andersson’s synthesizer work creates a warm, enveloping atmosphere, complementing Hedström’s melodies. The rhythm section, with Anton Jonsson on drums and Elias Hällqvist on bass and electronics, provides a solid foundation, allowing the album to flow smoothly from one track to the next.

A Promising Debut
"How to" stands out as a promising debut for Cosmic Wildlife. It's an album that not only showcases the band’s talents but also their potential for future growth and exploration in the music world. The seamless integration of various musical elements and the ability to convey depth in everyday moments make this album a compelling listen. Cosmic Wildlife's "How to" is not just a collection of songs, but a musical journey that resonates with listeners long after the last note has played.

Softly constructed soundscapes from Lisa and Kroffe

The Swedish duo continue to develop their comfortable yet boundary challenging sound

Lisa and Kroffe have been collaborating together for a while now, building up a discography of krautrock textured electronica. It’s been a journey through a wide expanse of territories, touching on genres such as folk, techno and light psychedelic.

Lisa is known for her work as the host of “Blue Monday”, one of Sweden’s most prominent music podcasts, while Kroffe is most often found amongst synths, both operating and constructing them.

Taking a step into their style of production you’ll find broad variety of approaches being employed, but the overall sense of Lisa and Kroffe’s work is that you’ve entered a sphere of gentleness. At times the tone is progressive, led through by soft beats. Other examples of their work exude a more meditative ambience, an environment coloured with delicately positioned waves of synth which encourage exploration of the self.

The duo has now reached the point of releasing their fourth album, a collection of ten tracks titled “Roslagens Famn”. Produced with support from ambient Swedish label Lamour Records, the album strikes a dreamlike note, adept at conjuring up soundscapes that feel fresh and without boundaries.

Our featured track from the “Roslagens Famn” is also the final inclusion on the LP: “Till Charlie”.

Jäverling ◇ von Euler shed light on upcoming Flora & Fauna collection

With the release of their downtempo single Drömstadie, the duo give a preview of upcoming Swedish collection album ‘Nattmusik’

An electronic duo based in Sweden, Rickard Jäverling and Henrik von Euler are both experienced producers in their own right. As solo artists and collaborators in a number of projects, they’ve been creating downtempo tracks which help bring a pause to stressed minds and hectic lives. As Dödens Dal they combined their talents and complementary processes to piece together albums within which they cultivated natural, organic instrumental led tracks to form peaceful soundscapes.

Despite leaving the project of Dödens Dal behind, the two have continued to work together, with further LPs exploring other avenues of their calming sound. These have been released on the Flora & Fauna label, which Von Euler has been running for around 15 years.

It’s through Flora & Fauna that the duo’s newest track ‘Drömstadie’ has been released, one of the first few tracks available from the upcoming ‘Nattmusik’ compilation, which will feature work from some of Sweden and Finland’s most talented producers of ambient and instrumental music.

The final release will be on September 10th, but four tracks have already been made public, each ascribing to Flora & Fauna’s deep electroacoustic vibe. Jäverling and Von Euler’s contribution is measured out with percussion and dreamlike melodies.

Enveloped in the sound of Elin Piel, Raspberry

Based in the city of Gothenburg, Swedish artist Elin Piel has been producing richly detailed tracks of ambient and drone. She’s currently associated with the Mystery Circles label, whose open attitude to new ventures suits the music created by Piel well, as she catches hold of the free environment to further her own personal style.

With a number of mesmerizing tracks scattered throughout her soundcloud which haven’t made their way into Piel’s two major EPs, it seems apparent that these EPs represent a somewhat brief look into a much wider, long term collection of experimentation and contemplation.

Titled ‘Alabo 10:19’ and released late last year, the first three track EP delivered four tracks recorded without retakes onto a Tascam Porta02. Her newest EP Omsorg has followed relatively swiftly after her first, although the inclusions from fall 2017 again make it clear that these tracks have been selected with measured patience.

The leading track from Omsorg, ‘Raspberry’ has direction and purpose to it, but here the melodic synth, deeper beats which retreat like waves, and soft layers of clicks co-exist. Rather than picking out a key player to elevate, Raspberry spreads outwards until the listener is enveloped, adding an ethereal quality to the edited voice samples.

Unique moments from Små Vågor - Fyrtornet

Provided to YouTube by IIP-DDS Fyrtornet · Små Vågor 4 ℗ Flora & Fauna Released on: 2019-09-20 Artist: Små Vågor Auto-generated by YouTube.

Hailing from Sweden, Ambient/Drone artist Henrik von Euler has worked under a number of monikers, and consistently produced note-worthy tracks with each incarnation. Euler also has 15 years of experience running the Swedish label Flora & Fauna, releasing music with a wide variety of artists. His new track Fyrtornet comes as part of his fourth album produced under the pseudonym of Små Vågor, meaning small waves.

With field recordings of bird cries and wind, the sound produced sometimes borders on desolate, but the deep bass and alien flickers of synth which guide the track also help to bring in a feeling of warmth. Drone is a genre that can at times be jarring and aggressive, but again, that lower bass does so much to calm and reassure the listener. It could also be viewed as being experimental, but doesn’t cross the boundary where the desire to do something different leaves a track creative but unorganised.

Fyrtornet is the type of song that could be listened to at any time, but will resonate much more strongly if the listener is able to stumble into it at just the right moment. Headphones on a cold day, alone at 2am, the day reaching twilight; in slightly otherworldly and unique atmospheres like these, Fyrtornet can amplify that unique aesthetic.
