Murakumo brings forth hidden projects with new EP ‘Identical Days’

The Dutch producer looks to his personal experiments as he focuses on solo releases

Murakumo has been a quiet side project for Luuc O over the past few years. The producer stood out for his contribution to the now retired IDM duo known as Ludique, and made a name for himself in the electronica community of Groningen in the Netherlands. Between preforming marathon DJ sets across the city, the artist would occasionally tinker with flavours of glitch, techno and UK garage. This aside into private work and experimental sampling would invariably end up stored on a pocket size USB, gradually planting the seeds for a new venture into the electronica scene, now coming to fruition.

The reclusive artist has finally begun to open up a little more, sharing his thoughts and ideas with the release of ‘Identical Days’ in December. The collection is a five track EP which delivers stirring but melodically smooth IDM, clean percussion sliding alongside mellow synth and low bass.

‘Identical Days’ gathers sounds of meditative future garage, and tinkers with ambience vibrant with character and stirred by manipulated vocals. Our featured track ‘Walk in the Park’ shimmers with light percussion, cosmic but cooling.

It’s a step away from the previous sound explored with Ludique, and a chance to wander in a fresh direction.

Organic Lo-Fi with Pinz & Pelz

Artist: Pinz & Pelz Format: Digital EP Title: A Purer Life EP' Release Date: September 27th, 2019 Support it: https://pinzandpelz.bandcamp.com/album/a-purer-life Pinz & Pelz: https://soundcloud.com/pinzandpelz https://www.facebook.com/PinzandPelz --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Houseum: https://soundcloud.com/houseum https://www.facebook.com/houseum.yt https://www.instagram.com/houseumrecords https://houseum.yt@gmail.com

The new release from Berlin/Sidney duo Pinz & Pelz, ‘A Lazy Day’, carries with it vibes of old school house, smoothed out and brought back from the club to more personal setting. Pinz & Pelz tend to produce more chilled out music, intermixed with occasional breaks and sharper samples that give their sound an edge.

With a slightly bulky start, ‘A Lazy Day’ takes a moment to collect itself together. The introduction could almost be called a little experimental; different samples and instruments fade in then quickly but softly fade out again. The snatches of organic instruments and waves of cosmic harmony flow over more concrete synth beats, as the assortment of sounds which interact throughout the song gradually emerge.

At about 1:20 some great electronic melodies begin to weave together the track, incorporating some creative wind and percussion from instruments including African mallets and a Persian Ney flute. The resultant sound is actually a little playful, with a sense of potential and variety. That this is a song which fits with a mellow vibe is clear, but there’s also a sense of a natural environment being expressed, the physicality of the organic samples used preventing the synth melodies from overriding the feel of the track.

The individual approach of SigObrilllAndo – True Mental

"True Mental" es el primer single del nuevo álbum de SigObrilllAndo, "Cosmic Zoo". Siguiendo la línea experimental de sus últimos dos lanzamientos, Landini agrega nuevos ritmos de percusión latina, sintetizadores profundos y beats electrónicos. Unlike some of our submissions, True Mental by SigObrilllAndo is a track that’s been given time to spread its wings, reaching a little past six minutes. It’s not the most predictable of productions either. My expectations of a sudden, heavier pulse of bass taking advantage of the song’s build up took a while to recede, as I realised there was no incoming acceleration.

Personally, I tend to hear more songs that have sudden, dramatic changes in rhythm or style, designed to catch the listener and guide their perception. In contrast, there’s a unique kind of value in the way that True Mental seems much less concerned about the audience, and entirely at ease with the sound it delivers. The introductory hits of percussion were something I expected to be quickly discarded in favour of more impactful bass or synth, but instead SigObrilllAndo keeps the faith, letting the percussion roll through as the key player.

That’s not at all to say this is a song without variety. The track brings us through soft vocals, a pleasingly funky shift in the song, and some alien flicks of electronic. There are some moments of intensification, but instead of aggression the focus is on an overlap of the mellow levels developed within the track. Instead of searching for an effective way to make a distinguishable impact through breaks or crescendo the artist builds layers, each creative and confident.
