Seb Wildblood Allows us into his Personal Space in "Sketches'

South London producer and label head honcho Seb Wildblood has had a very busy year juggling not one but three labels as well as touring globally to put wax to waves at various notable festivals. Often regarded as one of the most prolific figures in the Uk underground scene, Seb impressively has managed to carve out  time to work on his debut LP ‘Sketches of Transition’ which is due for release on the 26th of July on All My Thoughts.

Church and Coastal Haze are both labels that stretch the limits of house and deep house often venturing into experimental territory where few tend to tread. Fused with Jazz and heavily influenced by 90’s production styles that borrow from a lot more genres than just house, Church and Coastal Haze have grown to forge a reputation for being taste makers that never hold back in terms of imagination and flare.

’Sketches’ is a departure from the output of both Church and Costal Haze by being more grounded and introspective, delivering an opening to an album which feels a lot more personal. The lead synth melody is constant throughout supported only by a few other elements, playful percussion and a lazy warm and fuzzy bass-line that drop in and out to converse with the principal melody. What Seb creates is a beautiful simplistic down-tempo track that creates moments of serenity while still managing to be uplifting and vivacious. Perfect lounge listening for any day of the week.

Beat Bliss during Kurt Stewart's 'Rush Hour'

this was fun yooo sample: Ahmad Jamal - Dolphin Dance

Kurt Stewart is no stranger to ADSR. He has been present amongst our blog on more than one occasion and the reason for that is quite simple, he produces solid hip-hop instrumentals, ‘Rush Hour’ like his works before is straight up looped bliss.

‘Rush hour’ running at just over 2 mins puts some playful jazz piano front and centre and the result is a standard Stewart head nodder! Tight, crisp drums, muted double bass and high frequency hiss give the impression that you are listening to old dusty vinyl. This is what I love about Kurt’s productions is that they exude a kind of café cool that transports you to a place where you feel like you are lounging about sipping expresso smoking cigarettes casually taking in the noodling of the finest jazz artists of the day. Stewart always delivers breezy blissed out beats that are perfect to unwind to.

Smooth Sailing with Kurt Stewart's 'Cobblestone Bump'.

Everything about Kurt Stewart is unassuming. From his Spotify bio which simply reads “I love you” to the way he makes his beats. Especially ‘Cobblestone Bump’. We have reviewed Stewart’s releases in the past, most recently his soothing track ‘Laundry’. You can imagine Kurt up late nights crouched over his laptop with only the glow of the screen piercing the darkness as he drops into a state of flow becoming entranced by the latest sample that has grabbed his attention.

Like in ‘Laundry’ you can see he is a producer that enjoys stretching out the possibilities of a one looped sample. Lovingly and playfully, dropping drums in and out and adding affects where he feels like it. The result is, as always, a well crafted instrumental that gives you a warm sense of nostalgia and chill. Stewart knows the value of his samples and he has a way of transcribing his passion for them that always leaves us wanting more.

Misc.Inc allows us to wistfully wander in 'Childish Dreams'

I wanted to create a jazzy song that you can listen to on a rainy sunday with a hot chocolate and really good book in your hands. And while you read and enjoy the coziness you might drift off and think of a time in your life, where you had those childish dreams and ask yourself what happened to them and why. Dresden based Lo-Fi Hip-Hop producer Misc.inc revels in reverie in his latest release ‘Childish Dreams’. His bedim based beat is drenched in somber overtones as the leading sax sample causes us to be still and present by its effectiveness. Jazz has the power to draw us into the most venerable and fragile spaces within ourselves. There is something about the sound of brass being played with such gentle, poignant purpose that markets a magical state of melancholy.  Misc.inc is well aware of this as he gives the sample time to breath and be absorbed by the listener. A straight-up Lo-fi gem that sustains with a lasting repose.

17 year old Iowa Producer Shiy is more than meets the eye.

nothatbad, a song by shiy on Spotify

First look at Shiy and you can tell straight away there isn’t a lot of information about him knocking about. His bio on Spotify reads one line “ 17 year old instrumental hip-hop and jazz producer from Iowa”, that’s it, as far as he is concerned that’s all you need to know. And you know what maybe it is. It’s refreshing these days to have a air of mystery around an artist and to solely let the music do the talking.

Now, you might think maybe there is not much written about Shiy on his bio because like a lot of new pop-up producers he is brand spanking new to the game. But the truth is he has been around a little while. He already has a few albums to his name and for someone so young you can see a lot of promise in his capabilities. Rather than talk about his latest track “Nothatbad” which for the most part is pretty self explanatory, it’s not that bad! It’s a solid Jay Dilla sounding instrumental. It’s infectious, its fun, bright and hopeful. While listening you can imagine yourself pottering about whistling along. It is a nice, nostalgic little number and would be a good addition to any Spotify playlist.

But what I was most impressed by was Shiy’s discography as a whole. His past releases sound quite different than his most recent album- ‘Autumnal’, and this variety really shows the full scope of the young producer. Each release has something to offer, and show a kind of creative maturity and skill of the craft. It’s the sort of atmosphere you’d expect to hear on a beloved old dusty Jazz LP. If you are a fan of beats that can give you real moments of musicality and melancholy within the realm of Jazz, Motown and Blues then be sure to check out Shiy.
