Sound, Sight, City: Akkor’s ‘Zabt’

Üstün Lütfi Yildirim produces under the Akkor monikor, but his musical talent goes beyond this current project. Academically Akkor holds a master’s degree of Sonic Arts, received from Istanbul Technical University's Center for Advanced Studies in Music. He also attended the Red Bull Music Academy in Berlin, during the event’s 20th anniversary, and has worked on soundtracks for short films and sound installations.

As Akkor creates music, he builds upon new ground and walks paths as yet untouched by other artists. His personal style favours minimal electroacoustic compositions, given character by the inclusion of found noise pulled from urban environments. His tracks seem to take the solid realities of the city scenes which inspire his music, and elevate them to a more abstract and emotive level.

In a move away from convention, Akkor has presented his work in audio visual performances, with musicians creating live music alongside accompanying video clips and light displays.

With his upcoming album ‘Durma’ set for release on March 13th, Akkor has given us a sense of what the new collection might include, dropping the track ‘Zabt’. Cut with glitch and piano samples, the sound may be genre defying, but would fit cleanly into any well-curated electronic playlist.
