The power of certain mediums when utilized to their full potential have enormous influence over the way we think, react and feel. When visuals and sound hit the right note they can take us places we have never been or places we never thought we would visit again.

German electronic duo- ‘Afar’ combine the audio and visual to bring you to a place of nostalgia and frailty. If you separated the video from the track no doubt both would still hold resonance but they would impact you separately and in different ways. The sonic side of Singularität, without the aid of the spoken word intro, would sound like a lush piece of exploratory synth work and the visual side would be a collage of a day in the life of an old couple going about their days making music with some commonly adored studio equipment. When you put these elements together you add layers of meaning that go beyond what one could experience in a singular sense. Together these elements create art, the old couple I presume represent the male/female duo that is Afar and what they are referring to with having representations of themselves in their twilight years is unclear to me. What is crystal clear however is the impact it had on me and how moved I was by the trinity of whispers spoke to the deepest part of my soul. Through the full utilization of these elements I was reached, reacted and was left thinking about their story. Singularität left an imprint on me and took me to a place I haven’t been and forgot about all at the same time. I can’t explain it, I just felt it and that’s what true art does..

Fried Dough is an electronic psych band that blends dark trip hop grooves and spacey ambient textures with elements of experimental music and IDM. While working on commercial music projects at an ad agency in Toronto, Canada, Andrew Cariboni and Aaron Gaistman became friends over a shared love for independent electronic producers and psych-tinged jam bands. The two formed 'Fried dough' as a vehicle for their creative output and friend Nolan Bouvier later joined the band in 2016.

With a strong history of eclectic indie music, including Broken Social Scene, Caribou, Metric, and Death from Above 1979, Toronto is no stranger to bands that blur the lines between genres and styles. Fried Dough not only sees the groups various members playing a wide range of instruments, but also producing a full spectrum of tracks from pink floyd esque flowing psychedelia to texture-rich cutting edge electronic music.

The latter best describes the groups most recent track 'Brume' which is a brief yet powerful two and a half minutes of brain twisting idm and swelling analog synths. Despite the apocalyptic overtones the track ultimately concludes with a sense of resolve and optimism.
