With unreleased demos from his early period, Bonobo brings us the tracks we never heard
Bonobo is a name which draws attention in the world of electronica. The stage name adopted by Simon Green, Bonobo has been (and continues to be) a popular source of inspiration for artists out there producing electronic music. His most recent LP ‘Migration’ was released a few years back, and received praise not just from his cult following but also the 2017 Electronic Music Awards, where it won album of the year.
Recognised as a major figure in the downtempo electronic wave of the 2000s, Bonobo has moved into avenues of organic instrumentation, nu jazz and world music, but the new tracks made public by the British born producer return to his original sound and process.
In fact, Brighton Tapes 01 and 02 are previously unreleased demos created back when Bonobo dropped his debut album ‘Animal Magic’ in 2000. From a time when Bonobo was starting to draw a crowd but finding his feet in the industry, these tapes mean a unique opportunity to look back at his early work and find some of the raw energy that built his career.
Our featured track Brighton Tapes 01 a smooth ride, percussive kicks and bells underlining the wandering guitar with a striking but reserved beat.
