Disassembler Drops Their Debut Album 'A Wave From A Shore'

Chistopher Royal King and Christopher Tignor merge their electronic and compositional sensibilities as a new duo

A Wave From a Shore is the debut album of Disassembler—a first time collaboration between Christopher Royal King and Christopher Tignor. King, known as ‘Symbol’ and as a sound artist from This Will Destroy You, has his recent roots in exploratory vignettes that he has been producing over the duration of his move from Texas to LA. With a background that spans inspiration from metal to Philip Glass, his experimental style merges well with that of composer Christopher Tignor, who has released under his own name as well as with groups such as Slow Six and Wires Under Tension. They first came together nearly twenty years ago, when Tignor created string arrangements for This Will Destroy You releases.

Recent releases from Christopher Royal King as part of This Will Destroy You include Vespertine from 2020, New Others Part One and New Others Part Two from 2018, and S / T (10th Anniversary Edition), from 2018. Under his own name, Christopher Tignor has released A Light Below in 2019, Along a Vanishing Plane in 2016, and Thunder Lay Down the Heart in 2014. Together as Disassembler, their first album is set to release mid-March 2022.

The album was created remotely, as the artists live on opposite sides of the United States. King would send analog synth and tape loop recordings to Tignor who would integrate them into orchestrations for strings and piano. Merging King’s improvisational skill with Tignor’s classical methods, the electronically innovative compositions are alive, gentle, and epic. Much of Tignor’s contribution is rooted in violin which he manipulates in digital processes, resulting in a merging of artists that is emotional, restrained, and collaborative to its core.
